About

H, and welcome to my WordPress blog.

I currently live in Ottawa, but spent the last 9 years in Halifax. My blog used to be called Urban Pedestrian and I used to write about urban pedestrian related stuff.  But that got boring, so I took a break for a while.  I missed blogging though, so I came back and now blog about a lot of different things. So that’s why I’m called the Ex-Urban Pedestrian. (XUP)

I still love walking and do it a lot. I might even blog about it sometimes.  I might also mention my cat or my daughter once in a while. Or, stuff that’s going on in the news. And, sometimes I just write pointless stuff because it happens to be in my head at the time.

The best part of blogging, though, is hearing from and reading other bloggers and sometimes having fun and/or irritating arguments with them.  So, go for it!

If you want to email me about anything, feel free:  urbanpedestrian@gmail.com

  1. Hey there!

I found you through Reflecting and just wanted to give you a shout…especially since I saw that you’re from Halifax. One of my two best friends is from there (although he’s here now) and my maternal grandmother hails from Halifax. I think I must have retained a lot of my Canadian DNA as I’ve never met anyone from Canada I didn’t think was lovely!

I enjoy your blog and am still poking around, familiarizing myself. Thanks for letting me share in the fun!

  2. Hi,

Sorry I’m posting this instead of emailing you. I couldn’t find your email address on this site. Anyhow…

I run Blogawa.ca. It’s a blog aggregator that gathers together blog posts by people in Ottawa. I was wondering if you would be willing to allow Blogawa to carry your posts?

    Here are the details:
    - Blogawa.ca is intended to get people in Ottawa to talk to each other, and get more involved in our community.
    - Blogawa.ca is not a money making venture. I won’t put ads on the site, nor will I try to make money off it in any way.
    - You own your posts. Blogawa will republish your posts (with proper attribution) on blogawa.ca and the Blogawa RSS feed, and it may make a searchable listing of your posts, but I won’t use anything you’ve posted for any purpose other than those.
    - You can remove yourself from Blogawa at any time by sending me an email.

If you’re interested, send me an email and I’ll add XUP to the list o’ feeds that Blogawa.ca. In return, please put a link to blogawa.ca somewhere obvious on your site.

    thanks for your time,
    e
(Sorry if you’ve received this twice – I’ve sent out a pile of these things today)

  4. I just want to say how wonderful it is to catch up with you after so long. I love your writings and am slowling going through them, bit by bit.

Keep it up. You are doing very well. :)

  5. Merry Christmas XUP. I hope your family and friends all get along for the next few days, and you all have a great New Year.

…either you or Zoom owes me a meal. No rush.

  6. Hey,

Hope you don’t mind if hang out here from now on. Seems the rest of the blogosphere is full of fakers and liars (i.e. Men With Pens should be Men without Penises)

If if I don’t agree with you, you don’t attack or have snide inside jokes you share with a select few.

Your topics are varied and interesting. But most of all you are an excellent writer.

    Cheers,

    Eyeteaguy

  7. I stumbled upon your blog while googling images of Jane Jetson. Yes, Jane Jetson. About 20 minutes later I realized I was still browsing around your posts, reading things completely out of order but enjoying myself none-the-less. I’ve not yet been to Ottawa, but I’m sure that’ll change at some point. At any rate, excellent blog you have here!

  8. Meg – Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Please come back often and join in the discussion.

The rest of you all – this is the first time I’ve been in here to look. I don’t know why I wasn’t notified before that there are comments in here. Thanks for all your kind words.
